A fan favorite amongst Hawkeye fans, no Iowa player better embodied Norm Parker’s “six seconds of hell” defense than Mitch King. He may have literally bled Black and Gold.

“He’s as good a college football player as we’ve had since I’ve been here on defense,” the longtime Iowa defensive coordinator once said of King.

The Burlington, Iowa, native earned First Team All-Big Ten honors in 2007 and 2008 and was the Big Ten Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2008.

King is still proudly wearing Black and Gold — in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints.

Happy Birthday, Mitch. Hawkeye fans won’t soon forget the passion you had every time you took the field at Kinnick Stadium on game days.
